Nobles County Corn and Soybean Growers donate shoes to health care workers

ADRIAN — The Nobles County Corn and Soybean Growers had more than 40 teams participate in its June 21 golf outing at the Adrian Country Club.

Attendees engaged with sponsors and networked before the Rock-Nobles Cattlemen’s Association grilled over 300 steaks for the largest crowd the event has hosted to date.

During the steak dinner, the board recognized volunteer first responders and ambulance crews for their dedication to service. The board honored frontline works as part of the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council’s (MSR&PC) Stepping Up campaign that began in mid-May.

“The Stepping Up campaign is a program that we’re happy to participate in,” said Matt Widboom, Nobles County Corn and Soybean Growers chairman. “We always want to support the volunteer EMTs and ambulance staff in our county, and this is a great way to do so. We had a great response from the Driving Soy campaign last summer, thanking the Sheriff’s Department and this year we’re happy to support our health care workers.”

MSR&PC used checkoff dollars to promote the Skechers GO line of footwear,Hoka Shoes which incorporates soybean oil into the bottom rubber of the shoe. In 2020, Skechers released the line, which highlights the checkoff-supported technology developed by the Goodyear Tire Company, which are also used in soy-based tires.

All 44 organized soybean counties in Minnesota have a chance to donate 50 pairs of Skechers soy-based shoes to health care workers this summer. The Nobles County Corn and Soybean Growers selected Worthington and Adrian Ambulance, and Leota, Lismore, Ellsworth, Rushmore, Round Lake, Wilmont, Brewster and Bigelow first responders to receive the Skechers shoes later this summer.

“We were excited to invite the ambulance and first responder crews out to our golf outing to thank and recognize them for their service in our communities,” said Tom Diekmann, Nobles County Corn and Soybean Board member. “As a first responder myself, I thought inviting them was a great way to bring everyone together to show appreciation from the board.”
